What to teach and how to display them

Minimal origami is where the folds and techniques required are reduced to the lowest possible level. But, I wonder, does this automatically make them suitable for teaching? Do you think students feel short-changed with 2 and 3 fold models and struggle to "see" them??
I don't have a lot of teaching experience, but I think the average non-folder does feel cheated by minimalist models because they are expecting something more realistic. Minimalism seems to be appreciated most by veteran folders who have spent years folding more conventional models, or perhaps by non-folders who have a strong artistic sense.
