folded letter

Postby Nick » Mon Dec 07, 2015 6:18 pm

This is from pinterest with the text

Puzzle Purse Valentine Card, England, 1790. Message shown around edge when card is folded to show central red heart: 'My Dear the heart which you behold/ Will break when you the same unfold/ Even so my heart with love sick pain/ Sure wounded is and breaks in twain'. British Postal Museum and Archive

I thought it was a simple fold until I saw the lowest image -??

For me, this Valentine is so old that is torn !
So it could be presented as a puzzle that is not...
It's just a Puzzle purse !

The original is in the British Postal Museum
http://www.postalheritage.org.uk/collec ... OB1995_263

Two years ago some Valentine has been sold : See in the following catalogue https://www.spink.com/files/catalogue/13043.pdf
on pages 285, 290 and 292 to 295.

See in the following page http://www.victoriantreasury.com/librar ... le_Purses/
the restored back side.
