Re: El Trabajo Manual en la Escuela Argentina (1928)

I don't know if this is related or if it's only the titles that are similar:

El trabajo manual en la escuela (1914)

The paperfolding material starts on page 18.

Re: Any indexers for the translation of Joan's book?

Hi Claire (and Nick), The English index can't be done until the whole of the translation is in place and the layout is finalised. At that point we will know which page numbers to put in the index. The text of the German index can be translated, but as Nick rightly says the page numbers will probably...

Re: Joan's book

I'll buy a copy - as long as it's a decent translation. The book contains a lot of important research into the history of folding, and information that is not available anywhere else. And it's not "just" about napkins either. The 500-year-old folding techniques and principles that Joan describes are...

Re: My name is Paula

Hi Paula, There's an interesting site called http://www.kusudama.me/# , although I think the models are actually modular rather than true kusudamas. The distinction is nicely explained in Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kusudama , and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kusudama ]. Anywa...

Re: "De jonge werkman. Het vlechten" (1881) by Elise van Cal

I just received my copy of "Pleasant Work for Busy Fingers" (1896) and am happy to say it is in quite reasonable condition and has the full 330 pages (not 200 as advertised). It seems to be identical to the digital copy which Michel linked to. The contents are largely the same as those of Calcar's b...

Re: Exhibition in Basel

I went to see the exhibition after the Didactics convention (a great convention, by the way) and was very impressed. There are a lot of nice photos on the toy museum website, but it's even better to see the exhibits in real life. You can also listen to a commentary in German and English, and view sc...

Re: "De jonge werkman. Het vlechten" (1881) by Elise van Cal

Very interesting Michel. I didn't know about "Pleasant Work for Busy Fingers", but it seems it is available as a modern reprint: http://www.amazon.com/Pleasant-Work-For-Busy-Fingers/dp/1444655574 But with a bit of searching I was able to find an original edition, which I've ordered. It's apparently ...

"De jonge werkman. Het vlechten" (1881) by Elise van Calcar

I haven't had time to post anything on the forum recently, but here's a book I found which is worth mentioning before I lose the link: http://schoolmuseum.uba.uva.nl/view?docId=LCSM_200044/ocr.xml;query=calcar;brand=default#page/1/mode/2up It contains a lot of fascinating early material on paperfold...

Re: CARD

Well done Juan - those are the pages. So if you attach a file that contains an image, does the image appear as part of your post? I think Nick explained this to me before, but I'd forgotten how to do it.

Re: CARD

Back to the cube made from playing cards used to make smoke rings, as mentioned previously by Michel. There is another illustration in "La récréation en famille" by Tom Tit (Arthur Good) (1903). Sorry, I can't work out how to include an image of the page, so you'll have to click on the link: http://...
